(Bubble-less) Under the Sea

A Technical Rebreather Diver
For the longest time, the Rebreather diving have been kept within a niche group of divers willing to go the distance to undergo long tedious training and carry immense amount of diving equipment. There are many reason and benefits of Rebreathers compared to traditional Open-Circuit diving, to name a few,
  1. Rebreather divers can get closer to marine life without scaring them away with the bubbles.
  2. A tank of Air and Oxygen can last a Rebreather diver approx. 4 hours at any depth.
  3. Rebreather divers have longer no-decompression dive.
  4. Silent bubble-less diving allows for better photo & video to be taken.
  5. Feeling fresher after a dive due to higher concentration of oxygen
  6. And many more...
However with the Rebreather weighting up to 40kg and long dedication to the preparation and maintenance of the Rebreather, the benefits of does not obviously outweigh the cost & effort.

Poseidon Discovery MK6 Rebreather

Now, let us introduce the first fully automated recreational close-circuit rebreather, the Poseidon Discovery MK6 Rebreather!! Weighting at only 18kg (the weight of a single 11L cylinder), the Poseidon Discovery Rebreather also manages 55 pre-dive checks automatically, making it a hassle free rebreather diving experience. The Poseidon Discovery MK6 rebreather is so easy to use that even a non-scuba diver can learn to dive it without going through the traditionally long tedious path to become a rebreather diver.

At Provectus Lifestyle Asia, we have trained instructors to provide Poseidon Discovery MK6 RCCR(Recreational Closed-Circuit Rebreather) diving course. For those who are uncertain or would just like to experience rebreather diving, we also offering Poseidon Discovery Pool Tryout sessions at request (Do note that minimum of 4 pax is required for the tryout).

Powerski Jetboard License in Singapore

While the Powerski Jetboard might seems like the coolest toy to hit Singapore and we can't wait to ride the Powerski Jetboard, in Singapore, everything is "law-by-law", "step-by-step". Hence we have to answer the question of the legal & licensing issues in Singapore.

The Powerski Jetboard rides exactly like a surfboard with no left-right steering control, only turning using the tilt of the body/center of gravity. However unlike a traditional surfboard, the Powerski Jetboard hides a monstrous power, a 35 horsepower 2 stroke engine giving it a top-speed of 28 knots on flat water.

Big Air with the Powerski Jetboard

So, how do we classify the Powerski Jetboard? Is it a surfboard or is it a powered watercraft like a yacht or a jetski? Under the classification from the The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Powerski Jetboard is classified as a Motorized Funboat. Hence we would need to register a SZ or SZH license for the Jetboard. Like every powered watercraft, the user of the Powerski Jetboard will also require a Powered Pleasure Craft Driving Licence (PPCDL) to ride the Powerski Jetboard in Singapore.

Having meeting the above requirements, the next question is where can we play the Powerski Jetboard? The Powerski Jetboard can be launched at any location designated for Jetski & Wakeboarding but do remember that you have a fuel range of 45mins so do not venture too far from the beach or from the boat or you will have a tough time getting back.

Lastly, to answer the lingering question that most people have, what does learning driving/berthing a boat with steering wheels got to do with riding a surfboard that have no steering and cannot be berthed? While we understand this concerns, MPA does not have any solution for this yet, the rules of the road on the sea is still an important lesson to learn when operating the Powerski Jetboard and the PPCDL is the only course that teaches it. Provectus Lifestyle Asia is trying to work out an option with MPA for a different licensing more relevant to the Powerski Jetboard.

Need to turn? How low can you get?

While there are some restriction to riding the Powerski Jetboard in Singapore now, we are hopeful for a future where the Powerski Jetboard will be more accepted in Singapore, where the general public will be able to ride the endless wave as well.
